TECHSTARS: TechStars is a startup incubator with great street cred: it provides 3 months of mentoring, $100K in the form of a convertible note, PR assistance and other perks (Zipcar discounts!) The results: TechStars claims 80% of its companies get funded and it lists all the outcomes (including groups that tank). Edtech companies have been rare among the TechStar picks but that may be changing: in the latest TechStar class, which is Boston-based, two of the 13 chosen are edtech plays: adaptive testing company, Testive, and a site to collaboratively build lessons, LessonSmith.
