Dr. Laura Jacob is the superintendent of California Area School District in Coal Center, Pennsylvania. Under her leadership, California Area has been recognized nationally as a League of Innovative Schools member, a Learning 2025 Lighthouse Demonstration System and a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools District Sustainability Award winner. Dr. Jacob has spearheaded transformative initiatives such as Moonshot competency-based learning, Outdoor Science School, Bee Club and the 3D Violin Club, programs that connect students with real-world, sustainable learning experiences.
Known for her resourcefulness in securing grants and maximizing limited resources, Dr. Jacob models how small districts can drive big innovation, always centering her belief that every child deserves joyful, meaningful learning opportunities. She also sees the value in after-school learning and dedicates time each day to teaching an after-school club with her students, demonstrating her commitment to lifelong learning and connection beyond the traditional school day.
