UP IN THE AIR: Touted educational gaming startup, Airy Labs, is in trouble. TechCrunch reports that most of its 20-person staff has been laid off, and stories of paranoia and mismanagement have surfaced. Airy Labs was founded by whiz-kid Andrew Hsu, who left Stanford after he received Peter Thiel's "20 Under 20" Fellowship. That he was by far the most visibly promising graduate of that program leaves Audrey Watters questioning the whole premise behind paying kids to skip school to pursue dreams. Plenty to learn from this, like not hiring 20 employees out of the gate, and thinking twice before involving the parentals in management.
