Next Generation Learning Challenge, Broad Foundation Announce Grants for Schools

SCHOOLS TO WATCH: Last week, the Next Generation Learning Challenges (NGLC) announced the recipients of its third wave of grants, totalling $5.4 million, for 13 blended learning models for schools serving grades 6-12 and higher education. The seven grantees working on college readiness each received $150k and will be eligible for up to $300k in one-to-one matching funds. The other six, working on models for college completion, received grants ranging from $250k to $1 million. And just yesterday, the Broad Foundation announced Miami-Dade County Public Schools as the winner of the 2012 Broad Prize for Urban Education; it will receive $550K in college scholarships for its high school seniors. The three finalists in Corona-Norco, Houston and Palm Beach will each get $150K.
