May 10, 2019

STORY TIME: Netflix, the Los Gatos, Calif.-based video-streaming service, has bought StoryBots, a children’s education brand by the same brothers behind digital entertainment company and viral video producer JibJab.

Netflix and StoryBots tweeted the news Thursday. Founded in 2012, StoryBots claims over 85,000 classrooms worldwide have used its brand of books, videos, games, music and more for children ages 3 to 8. The brand’s offerings already includes the Netflix original series “Ask the StoryBots.”

The company’s creators are Evan and Gregg Spiridellis, whose JibJab company has produced widely shared song parodies of presidential elections and year-end reviews of current events. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings’ past education investments include DreamBox Learning and Rocketship Education.
