Language-Learning Startup Fluent City Closes $3M Funding Round

FLUENT CITY, a Brooklyn, NY-based language-learning startup, has raised $3 million from Lerner Enterprises, TechCrunch reports. New Ground Ventures, ZG Ventures, WorldQuant Ventures, Runway Growth Credit partner Matthew Hanson, John Katzman, Jack Larson, and Nick Hammerschlag of Entangled Ventures also participated in the round. The most recent funding brings the company’s total raised to $5.5 million.

Founded in 2011, Fluent City offers courses in ten different languages including Spanish, French, Chinese and Russian. The company will offer both online subscription-based courses, as well as in-person options in New York City, Boston, DC, Philadelphia and Chicago. Brick-and-mortar courses start at $399 for a group class or $55 per hour for private lessons. Online programs vary by package, but stat at $99 per month for two lessons, according to TechCrunch.
