Major Leadership Shuffles at McGraw-Hill, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

Oct 17, 2017

CHIEFS FOR CHANGE: Two of the “Big Three” publishers announced a major shakeup of their executive leadership teams one day apart this week. The more thorough house cleaning goes to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which appointed seven vice presidents to new positions. (Titles are a dime a dozen for companies of its size, but there are four new Chiefs and three new General Managers.) All seven will report directly to Jack Lynch, who took over as CEO this February.

A day later, David Levin, CEO of McGraw-Hill Education since April 2014, announced his departure. “For me personally it is time to regroup and think of new horizons, he wrote.” Taking his place on an interim basis will be Lloyd “Buzz” Waterhouse, who was the previous president and CEO of the company before Levin took over.
