Investors Back an App That Reminds Students To Get Off Their Phones In Class

Aug 25, 2017

FLIPD IT OFF: Flipd, an app that tries to get students off their phones so they can focus in class, has raised an undisclosed amount of funds in an angel round led by Ryerson Futures Inc. Founders of healthcare startup Figure 1, and Candice Faktor of Faktory Ventures also contributed to the round, according to a press release. The company did not disclose how much was raised.

Launched in 2016, Flipd reminds users to not use their phones during lecture by telling them when it’s time to “Flip Off” their devices for class. Professors can later see data that measures when students used their phones, and give incentives or rewards to the ones who stayed attentive.

Cristian Villamarin, the company’s CEO and head of sales, was quoted in the press release saying Flipd will use the recent funding to “scale the business” and “expand” its technology.
