Is the District CIO Role Morphing Into an Entrepreneur-in-Residence?

DATA WIZARD: A school or district CIO (or Chief Information Officer) has traditionally held a role of passively consuming data analytics platforms and uploading Excel docs. But now, the CIO role has morphed into something quite different; according to Jessica Terrell of District Administrator, being a CIO is "all about creating systems that aggregate and sort data automatically." In a recent article, Terrell cites the Sun Prairie Area and Muskego-Norway School Districts, both in Wisconsin, as sites where administrators created their own data portals and customized dashboards after dealing with the frustrations of the state’s WISEdash system.
