MELINDA’S MISSION: In the 1980’s, one in three of undergraduate CS degrees went to women. Today, it’s one in five. “We all know there’s this leaky pipeline. It starts in elementary school, then middle school, then high school, and so on,” says Melinda Gates in an interview with Backchannel. “I want to figure out the solutions.” Her latest commitment is to redress gender inequality in technology—starting with the education pipeline.
