TES Survey: Teachers Use OER More Than Textbooks

Mar 8, 2016

WITH ARMS WIDE OPEN TO OER: SXSWedu is, if nothing else, a celebration. And a teacher survey released today by UK education company, TES Global, offers reasons to rejoice. Seventy-three percent of the nearly 1,000 U.S. teachers who responded in January and February 2016 say they use open educational resources more than textbooks. Their access to online tools also seems to be trending in the right direction, with only 16 percent saying Internet connectivity is a barrier, down from 35 percent in 2015. What do teachers want most? One-fourth of respondents “would most like to see game-based technology in their classroom above any other single technology, including laptops.”
