TutorGroup Raises Big $100M Round for Language Learning

TUTORGROUP: Online language learning provider TutorGroup has raised $100 million from Alibaba, Temasek and Qiming Venture Partners, reports VentureBeat. The company previously raised $15 million in April 2012. Founded in 2004, TutorGroup offers three lines of online English-language products for students and professionals in Asia, along with a Mandarin Chinese language learning platform. The company boasts "analytical algorithms and predictive capabilities" to recommend the "optimal" course size, teacher, and teaching material for each student. (It also has former NBA All-Star, Yao Ming, endorsing the service.) Over 2,000 tutors in 32 countries and students from 40 countries, are on the platform.
