Amazon Acquires TenMarks

Oct 10, 2013

TENMARKS: Burlingame, CA-based TenMarks will be acquired by Amazon; terms of the deal were not disclosed. Amazon Kindle VP, Dave Limp, said in the press release that the two companies "intend to develop rich educational content and applications, across multiple platforms." It's a clear sign that Amazon is serious about bolstering curriculum offerings on Kindle devices and potentially making a play to sell to schools. Founded in 2008, TenMarks offers an online, adaptive math program for grades K-12 and boasts users in over 25,000 schools and 7,000 districts. (Here's our in-depth look at the program.) The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter. TenMarks has raised $4.59 million to date.
