Teach for America Gets $20M from Walton Family Foundation

Jul 31, 2013

MORE TEACHERS. TFA: America’s favorite (or controversial, depending on who you ask) teacher recruiter, Teach For America, will be receiving $20 million over the next two years, courtesy of the Walton Family Foundation. The Arkansas-based philanthropic arm of Walmart has now given TFA over $100 million over the past 24 years. The funds will go toward recruiting and training 4,000 first- and second-year teachers, 700 of whom are slated for schools in Los Angeles (soon to be flush with iPads.) However, the generous gift does not come without question marks from Walton and TFA detractors. The LA Times outlines the details.
