Student Investors See Promise in Speech Therapy Startup

Mar 6, 2013

FOR STUDENTS BY STUDENTS THROUGH STUDENTS: RoughDraft.vc, the Boston-based student investment group supported by General Catalyst Partners, has just announced their first seed investment in the amount of $20K to Balbus, Inc. The startup is building a "next generation special education platform" with a special emphasis on speech therapy. Founder and student-entrepreneur Jack McDermott -- who's passion for Balbus comes from his own trials with stuttering -- is not brand new to the edtech startup scene or the issues plaguing speech therapy. He currently has two such apps in the iTunes App Store: Speech4Good and Fluently. McDermott and team will use the funds to support themselves and Balbus on a full-time basis during the summer months.
