TO THE STARS AND BEYOND: Elon Musk revealed in an interview with Beijing Television that he has started a small, secretive school for his kids and and a few children of employees at his company, SpaceX. Named "Ad Astra" (Latin for "to the stars"), the one-year-old school has no grade levels (and currently no website) and operates on two principles shared by Musk:
- "It makes more sense to cater the education to match [students'] aptitude and abilities;"
- "It's important to teach to the problem, not to the tool."
The famed tinkerer and inventor offered an example of taking apart an engine as a lesson on how screwdrivers and wrenches can be used. It's through projects like these that "the relevance of the tool becomes apparent." Regular schools, he believes, "weren't adhering to those two principles."
