S'Cool Tools of the Week: Gooru and Net Texts, Versal, Poll Everywhere

Jan 11, 2015

TOO COOL (PERFECT FOR SCHOOL): We're off to a surging year (yes, we love that word) here at the EdSurge offices, and to kick it off, we've got our first round of favorite edtech teacher and administrator tools for the week right here, as highlighted in our Instruct newsletter.

By the way--got a favorite S’Cool Tool you like to use? We would love to hear and share your recommendations! If you’ve got a tool that makes you or your students sing from the proverbial mountaintops, fill out this form to let us know. It might just get featured!

Our tools of the week are:

Free! Like checking out new open educational resources, then remixing and sharing them with colleagues? Nonprofit resource hub, Gooru, is partnering with open educational resource library platform Net Texts to offer all of its learning catalog material in Net Texts’ OER library, available in the App Store and Google Play. Now, you can search through over 100,000 resources on Net Texts, from Khan Academy videos to material from universities to curriculum created by other educators.

Free! If you want to create courses for your students online but don’t know how to code, Versal may be for you. Users can add text, video, images and whole files to personalize a course, and check out those created by others. And if you want to embed Versal-designed courses directly into your LMS or class website, try out its new integration tools!

Freemium: Pop quiz, pollster! What polling tool is used in over 100,000 schools and half of the Fortune 1000 companies? Poll Everywhere offers flexible and powerful ways to quickly set up and analyze mobile and web polls. The free K-12 basic plan is great for small classes and simple questions; you’ll get more bang for the buck with a transparent and fairly friendly pricing plan. By the way, the company recently did a facelift with new features including heat maps, web slides and Keynote integration.
