PlayShifu Raises $7 Million to Bring AR Educational Toys to Classrooms

PLAYSHIFU, a Bangalore, India-based developer of educational toys, has raised $7 million in a Series A round led by Chiratae, Inventus Capital and Bharat Innovation Fund. Previous backer IDFC-Parampara Fund also contributed to the round.

Founded in 2016, PlayShifu offers physical toys that pair with mobile devices to create augmented-reality learning experiences for geography and STEM topics. These kits start at $49.99 each. The company claims to have reached more than 100,000 children in the U.S. and is planning to enter the schools market this year, according to VentureBeat. It is also working to expand its retail footprint to more than 30 countries starting in 2020.

PlayShifu currently numbers 55 employees and also has an office in San Francisco. To date, it has raised $8.5 million.
