IT ISSUES: “You name it, higher education offers it, and the IT organization supports it,” writes EDUCAUSE's VP for communities and research, Susan Grajek. But information technology isn't bulletproof, and glitches in a college or university’s system could put thousands of faculty and students at risk losing valuable research, tools and even personal information. To help identify and improve these problems, EDUCAUSE this year pinned down the top 10 IT issues higher-ed institutions might face. Here are a few that stood out:
1. Information Security: Develop a holistic, agile approach to reduce institutional exposure to security threats
4. Strategic Leadership: Reinforce the role of IT leadership as a strategic partner with institutional leadership
5. Sustainable Funding: Develop IT funding models that sustain core services, support innovation and facilitate growth
7. Higher Education Affordability: Prioritize IT investments and resources in the context of increasing demand and limited resources
10. Digital Transformation of Learning: Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to apply technology to teaching and learning in ways that reflect innovations in pedagogy and the institutional mission
