Umang Gupta is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, founder and public company CEO. He wrote the first business plan for Oracle and spent 35 years helping build the enterprise software industry. He is now an edtech industry investor, board member and advisor.

Brief Biography

Umang Gupta is a well-known technology visionary, Silicon Valley entrepreneur and company founder, and CEO of multiple public companies. After having spent more than 35 years helping to pioneer and build the enterprise software industry, Umang is now devoting his time exclusively to the online education industry as an investor, board member, advisor and mentor to young companies and entrepreneurs.

Umang began his career in 1973 with IBM. Umang joined Oracle Corporation in 1981 as employee # 17 where he wrote the first business plan for the company and served as Vice President and General Manager of the Microcomputer Products Division through 1984. He left Oracle to become Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Gupta Corporation, which he took public in 1993 (NASDAQ: GPTA). Gupta Corporation was responsible for ushering in the era of enterprise client/server computing by introducing many seminal innovations, including the world's first client/server relational database system for PC networks. From 1997 until his retirement in August 2013, Umang served as chairman and chief executive officer of Keynote Systems (NASDAQ: KEYN), the global leader in test and measurement solutions that improve mobile communications and online e-commerce.

Umang has previously served on the boards of PARCA, a Bay Area based organization devoted to the needs of the developmentally disabled, and of the Peninsula Community Foundation. He is also an avid history buff and served as Board Chairman of the San Mateo County Historical Association. He served previously as Chairman of PanIIT USA, and currently serves as the Board Chairman of PanIIT Global, an umbrella organization for over 200,000 IIT alumni across the world. In 2000, Umang was the honored recipient of the Asian Pacific Foundation Award for Civic Leadership and Philanthropy.He currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Smithsonian Asian Pacific Center (APAC).
