Brief Biography

Tom Whisinnand is a fourth grade teacher at Reagan Elementary in Millard Public Schools. He has been teaching for 17 years. Whisinnand received his Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from Wayne State College, in Wayne Nebraska. He also holds a Master’s of Science in Curriculum and Instruction and a Master’s of Science in Educational Leadership. Last year he was named the 2019 National University Sanford Teacher Award Grand Prize Winner.

Whisinnand—or “Mr. Wiz” as his students call him—believes that cultivating a caring classroom community is the foundation for all students to be successful. He was instrumental in bringing Sanford Harmony to Millard Public Schools and continues to be a staunch advocate of the importance for social-emotional learning to be taught, so that each student can reach their full potential.

Whisinnand currently resides in Omaha, Nebraska with his wife, Kelly, and their two children.
