For the first time, the International Society for Technology in Education will host its flagship conference, ISTE20, as an entirely virtual event. The event, which typically draws more than 20,000 attendees, will move online Nov. 29 to Dec. 5 due to concerns over COVID-19.
ISTE—the parent organization of EdSurge—had originally postponed the event back in March. Last week, it canceled the in-person portion, slated to take place in Anaheim, Calif.
In a statement, CEO Richard Culatta called the virtual event an “immersive experience,” and alluded to live, educator-led sessions, which will also be available on demand. An online expo hall is also on tap.
The program has not been published, though a handful of featured speakers have already been announced.
According to its website, ISTE will honor previous conference registrations. New registrations will open in mid-August.
The 2021 conference, scheduled for San Antonio in June, is proceeding as planned.
