California’s Legal Restrictions on Student Data Usage

Sep 15, 2014

PROTECTING PRIVACY: California is poised to enact wide-ranging restrictions on how edtech companies can use student data, The New York Times reports. On August 28, state legislators passed a bill aimed to address parental concerns about student data privacy, prohibiting edtech companies from compiling dossiers or disclosing personal information about students. Without intervention from Governor Jerry Brown, the bill will become law at the end of September.
