WordQ provides word prediction and text-to-speech feedback to help users choose the right words when writing. The product is generally suitable for grades 7 and above and requires a one-time purchase.
APPROACH
WordQ first needs to be downloaded onto the student’s device (PC/Mac, iPad or Google Chrome browser). Students can then write in wordQ’s own text editor (on iPad or Google Chrome) or in third-party applications such as Microsoft Word, gmail and google docs (on PC/Mac). WordQ’s functions bar will either be at the top of wordQ’s own text editor or hovering above the third-party’s application.
WordQ’s functions include in-context word prediction and text-to-speech reading. When students write, predictions of intended words appear at the bottom of the screen. Students can see usage examples of each suggested word to decide which one to choose. After selecting a word, students may have the word or even a highlighted sentence / entire paragraph read aloud to him/her for proofreading.
The product is available in both English and French.
