The Who Built America: Badges for History Education by the American Social History Project is a browser-based curriculum designed specifically for Grade 7 to 12 U.S. history teachers. Teachers work with and use Common Core aligned resources provided by the American Social History Project (ASHP) to teach their classroom.
To begin, teachers will receive guidance and instruction on how to effectively present material to their students. Then ASHP will work with teachers to design a curriculum. As the teacher completes tutorials and lessons, he or she will earn badges as well as PD hours.
There are three categories of badges each with specific instructions: lesson builder, unit builder, and community. Lesson builder badges are awarded after a teacher has completed a provided tutorial, created lessons using online resources, and was reviewed by WBA. There are a total of four badges in this category. The unit builder badges offers three badges, each representing a level that must be passed to move to the next. These badges ultimately result in implementing, teaching, and analyzing an inquiry unit. The community badges are earned after teachers participate and add to WBA’s discussion forums and share resources. Four badges are awarded in this category.
