SUMMARY
System of Courses consists of full math and ELA curricula for K-12 students. The curricula are tablet-based and designed for usage in a 1:1 classroom. System of Courses is available for purchase.
GOALS
Pearson’s System of Courses presents complete math and ELA curricula for students in K-11 and K-12, respectively. The tool was created to give teachers the structure to ensure their students are learning Common Core-aligned materials, while allowing the flexibility to adjust their class schedule as needed.
APPROACH
Each Course in the tool provides 150 days of full course instruction. These 150 days are broken down into several units, which in turn are made up of lessons and tasks. Each lesson is structured similarly to ensure that they develop a learning routine for each subject. These routines are repeated across every class period and over all the years teaching with System of Courses.
Much of students’ work in System of Courses is based off of the Student Notebook, into which students can write, type, draw, and perform other functions. Notebooks can be shared between students or between a student and teacher. Students can also annotate the texts that they are reading.
System of Courses’ math units fall into three broad categories: Concept units, modeling units (collaborate to practice concepts) and projects units (use learning to address real world issues). Within units, the typical math lesson is organized into several phases, including work time, exploring various ways of thinking about a problem, and reflection into the student’s notebook.
The typical System of Courses ELA lesson balances reading and writing with group discussion and small group work.
IMPLEMENTATION
System of Courses is designed to be implemented in a 1:1 classroom.
