Study Island is an online resource designed to support and monitor mastery of state standards for students in grades K-12in the subjects of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. The program offers students online practice, assessment, and games aligned to state-specific standards, while also providing teachers and administrators with tools for progress monitoring and data analysis. Pricing plans for Study Island vary based on state, content, and number of licenses purchased.
Study Island allows teachers to individually assign interactive lessons and activities to students from a catalog of content aligned to their own state standards and grade level. Moreover, teachers may conduct group sessions in which students submit their responses to questions in real-time, allowing for instant identification of individual or whole-group gaps in understanding. Teachers can also opt to build their own tests from a vastlibrary of test items. As of February 2016, Study Island boasts a library of over 600,000 questions, including 6,600 technology-enhanced items. These tests can be saved, re-assigned, and shared with other teachers within the school or district.
Students log in to their own Study Island account from an internet-enabled computer or tablet and are presented with the practices and assessments that have been assigned by their teacher. Students track their own progress toward standard mastery as they complete practice assignments and assessments, review interactive lessons, and play educational games.
Teachers and administrators monitor student progress through Study Island’s Edmentum Sensei tool which provides data analytics, such as charts, visual cues, and graphs. This tool provides both a global snapshot of the class’ mastery of learning outcomes, as well as an in-depth breakdown of individual student progress, identifying each item that was answered incorrectly. From within Edmentum Sensei teachers can customize their lessons, provide feedback to students, and make adjustments to their instruction based on data analysis.
Additionally, Study Island offers grade- and subject-specific benchmark assessments that can be purchased as an additional charge. These assessments are aligned to each state’s assessment requirements and are administered four times throughout the school year.
An at-home version of Study Island is also available for families to purchase. Study Island for Home allows students to log on from their computers or tablets at home and view lessons, complete practice activities, and play educational games. Student earn points and badges as they work through the ELA, math, science, and social studies content of their choosing, and they can spend their points to play games or upgrade their avatars.
The cost to implement Study Island depends on the state in which the district resides, the subjects purchased, and the number of licenses required. Pricing quotes can be requested by filling out a brief questionnaire on the Study Island website.
