GOALS

Storyboard That is a graphic organizer and storyboard creator that reinforces English and history concepts in elementary school and beyond. This product is intended to improve students’ imagination and collaboration.

APPROACH

Teachers and students use Storyboard That to create storyboards and graphic organizers that coincide with English, history, foreign language, and literacy lessons. Materials are versatile to adapt to any grade level, and educators can use it to enhance understanding through visual learning.

The program provides pre-made scenes, characters, text boxes, shapes, and other images to choose from, and premium users can also upload their own pictures. Other options included in the premium version include audio and advanced layouts. Students are able to drag and drop these items into their chosen layout. Scenes are organized into locational and thematic categories (e.g. school). Characters are organized similarly and can be customized with hair color, eye color, and other edits. Text boxes allow the student to give voice to their characters. Shapes and additional images add props to the story.

Once finished, storyboards can be saved as PDFs, storyboard cells, or PowerPoint presentations.

IMPLEMENTATION

Storyboard That is a use-only, web-based program; teachers cannot manage or view students work through the program. It is an HTML5 website that can be used on both android and apple computers and tablets, and can adapt to any device.
