The makers of the “irreverent” (some might say goofy) Standard Deviants educational videos have come to the Internet. Their Web-based platform Standard Deviants Accelerate (SD Accelerate) includes video content featuring the Standard Deviants characters, of course, but also a variety of lessons, quizzes, and interactive activities--many of which can also be printed to review or complete offline. Grade levels span K-12 and higher education and subjects include algebra, math, biology, history, English, nutrition, earth & life sciences, and several Advanced Placement subjects.
Maker Cerebellum Corporation says the platform was built with state and Common Core standards in mind. However, its interface doesn't appear to allow teachers to easily view content by standard, which may make it difficult to integrate into standards-based curriculum. SD Accelerate delivers differentiated instruction to students based on their needs, using the results from quizzes along the way, and can inform teachers, parents and students themselves about progress through various graphics and rubrics.
The company charges on a per-teacher basis. The first teacher account (within a school) for a single subject costs $495 per year. (Each teacher can make unlimited student accounts.) Each additional teacher account for that school is priced at $400 per year. For AP test prep, the first teacher account is $125 per year; subsequent accounts are $95 per year.
