RISU Math is a tablet-based math program for students to practice math outside of the classroom. The program comes on a specialized, custom tablet. Pricing for RISU varies, but is based on a parent-purchased subscription.
APPROACH
When parents subscribe to RISU, they are sent the specialized RISU tablet. The tablet contains a variety of math exercises, divided into “stages.” Students can explore the stages at their own pace, with more advanced stages being unlocked by completing the earlier ones. Each stage contains instruction in the relevant topic; this instruction is a mix of text, audio and video.
Each also contains a series of questions. These range from basic math problems (“Read the clock”) to conceptual ones (“What are the properties of these shapes?”). Students are periodically challenged with “Monster problems” in order to keep them from complacency. According to the company’s website, RISU Math hosts 10,000 math problems. The company’s website claims that problems adapt to the responses and progress of the student, so that not too much time is spent on areas that the student already understands. Only multiple choice and fill-in-the-blank questions are provided.
A parent dashboard shows statistics on a student’s progress, including time spent with the tool, areas of challenge, which topics have been covered recently.
PRICING
RISU Math is available through subscription. A 3 month plan costs $360, while a 12 month plan will cost $1,440. This cost is per student user. Discounts are available for purchases for multiple students, and premium support is available for an extra charge.
