(Qlovi was shut down in early 2015)
Qlovi is afree K-12 eReading and writing platform aligned to the Common Core StateStandards. Harlyn Pacheco co-founded Qlovi in the Fall of 2013 to address a“literacy crisis that disproportionately affects low income and students ofcolor.” According to the company, only ¼ of high school graduates move on witha reading and writing proficiency necessary for success in college and beyond.
Qlovi first prompts teachers to add their class andstudents to the platform. Then they can search through their library ofthousands of interactive and integrated digital books by genre, theme, gradelevel, difficulty level, or even particular standards. Teachers can choosetexts that are appropriate for students of varying reading levels and selectlessons that are integrated directly into certain texts. As students proceedthrough their reading assignments, highlighted passages will have accompanyingassessments that are linked directly to certain Common Core State Standards.Teachers will receive a report of each student’s overall comprehension levelsof each text, as well as a measure of their understanding of each individualstandard present in each section. Teachers can then add different types ofquestions into future texts designed to help students in the areas that theyneed to improve.
