Share and explore collections of web pages, photos, and notes around topics of interest

Overview

SUMMARY

Pearltrees allows anyone to organize their interests in an easily customizable and searchable way. Users upload items or link to them from the internet, and can connect with their friends and others who share similar interest. Pearltrees is free for individuals to use; additional features are available for purchase.

GOALS

Pearltrees allows anyone to organize their interests (files, links and resources) online in an easily customizable and searchable way. The product is primarily intended for middle school, high school, and post-secondary students.

APPROACH

Users can create a Pearltrees account from scratch, or can log in using their existing Facebook, Twitter or Google accounts. Pearltrees delivers a brief tutorial on how to use the site, and then users can begin to build collections.

Users are meant to organize their Pearltrees site around different interests (edtech, NBA, history, etc.) Users can add a variety of items to their individual pages, including web pages, photos, or other files. These can be added through standard drag-and-drop or a browser extension. Items can be grouped and subgrouped into a structure that most makes sense for the individual user.

Connections with other users are an important part of Pearltrees. Users can use social sites and their contacts to add friends to follow, and can search for people or topics that interest them with the site’s search feature. Additionally, a quick click can show collections that the site believes will be interesting to the user, based on the user’s current collection of materials.

IMPLEMENTATION

Pearltrees is available on a browser, or on native iPhone, iPad, or Android apps. An internet connection is required to use the free version of Pearltrees.
