Open Learning Initiative at Stanford Product Website
The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) at Stanford is a non-profit research organization that offers openly-licensed, adaptive online courses and materials that can be used by instructors or independent learners. Course content and assessments are tagged with learning objectives, which the courseware uses to model learner mastery and offer feedback and predictions to students or instructors. OLI at Stanford emphasizes its courseware is designed by and for higher education, and that its courses serve as laboratories and communities for learning research and development by instructors and participating institutions. OLI’s adaptivity can be used to provide feedback and predictions to support student and instructor decision-making about what content students see next, or to fully automate those decisions. Instructors have access to authoring tools and can use the courseware when teaching in fully online, blended or face-to-face formats.
OLI at Stanford and OLI at Carnegie Mellon (CMU) are separate organizations leveraging distinct courseware platforms, although both organizations collaborate on course design and delivery. OLI at Stanford courseware is hosted on Lagunita, Stanford’s OpenEdX platform.
