The Open Learning Initiative (OLI) at Carnegie Mellon is a nonprofit research organization that offers openly licensed, adaptive online courses and materials that can be used by instructors or independent learners. OLI at Carnegie Mellon emphasizes its team-based approach to help faculty identify a measurable learning model, and robust data capture and analysis capabilities to improve each model.OLI at Carnegie Mellon also emphasizes its home at the Simon Initiative, a larger learning engineering ecosystem at Carnegie Mellon.The courseware includes elements such as content, problems, labs and simulations, dashboards for students and instructors, and targeted hints and feedback. Instructors using the OLI platform have access to authoring tools and can pull elements from other OLI curricula into the course they are creating. The courseware can be used in fully online, blended or face-to-face formats.
OLI at Stanford and OLI at Carnegie Mellon (CMU) are separate organizations leveraging distinct courseware platforms, although both organizations collaborate on course design and delivery. OLI at CMU courseware is hosted on on the OLI platform. More information on OLI at Stanford can be found here.
