Learning Jar is a web-based platform where individuals can share what they’ve learned via informal avenues like books, blogs, videos, and other web-based methods. By creating and sharing the path they took to acquire a skill, users provide pathways toward learning that others can follow. Currently, the platform highlights professional skills like web design, online marketing, and web development, but skills like glassblowing have also been added to the mix. The skills on Learning Jar are only as strong and diverse as the community that uses it. Currently targeted at adult learners and career changers.
Currently, the platform is free. While the skills currently on Learning Jar do not tie to specific learning standards (state-wide or Common Core), there are clear connections to 21st Century Skills such as Financial, Economic, Business and Entrepreneurial Literacy; Information Media and Technology Literacy; and a variety of other Career Skills.
Learning Jar is still in its early days, as followers of individual skills are still measured in the 10’s as of summer 2013.
