K-12 LMS where teachers can create interactive web pages, online projects, discussions

Overview

Haiku Learning is a Learning Management System designed to streamline the addition of technology into the classroom. Haiku contains a variety of grading, content creation and administrative features. A free version is available for individual teachers, while districts pay for a license to use the product.

APPROACH

Haiku Learning allows teachers to create content and share it quickly with their students. Using Haiku, teachers can create a class website and develop their own assignments, or curate materials from other parts of the internet. Students can then work collaboratively on these tasks, and can see how they fit into the calendar of the overall class. Teachers can also use the tool to send reminders or announcements to students.

Teachers also use Haiku to keep track of grades and other teacher administrative functions. Teachers can leave feedback on assignments for individual students, and can present quizzes and polls through the tool. Haiku provides statistics on which students spend time with which materials. Teachers also take attendance through Haiku, and can use its traditional or standards-based gradebook.

Finally, Haiku’s district-wide features allow administrators to manage their schools and teachers to improve collaboration. Haiku integrates with many commonly used SIS’s and coordinates with Google’s Single Sign on. The tool also allows teachers to share content with each other and to re-use class materials for different sections of the same class.

PRICING

Haiku is available for free to individual teachers; the free plan provides up to 5 class sections and 2GB of storage. Teachers can upgrade this plan for a monthly fee of $4.95 to $30, depending on the number of students and amount of storage desired.

District pricing varies depending on the size of the district, with a 200 seat minimum required. Haiku also provides a free 60 day trial for districts considering using the product.
