Grockit is a San Francisco-based company involved in social learning. It got its start by developing a test-prep platform to help students study in groups for college and post graduate admissions tests such as GMAT, SAT, ACT, GRE and others.
These test-prep programs are personalized and adaptive in that they change the student's path through the questions based on their answers. It provides extensive data on how students are doing on every segment of material covered by a relevant test.
Grockit enables students to study solo or in groups. It provides both video tutorials as well as access to live instructors. It also employs game mechanics such as leaderboards and badges to foster engagement.
Through the Grockit Academy, the company supports test-prep of math and English for grades 7 through 12.
In October 2011, Grockit announced Grockit Answers, a tool for hosting Q&A discussions around videos hosted on YouTube and Vimeo. (Here's an example.) It also offers a Facebook-based "school matching" program to help identify colleges that might interest students.
Approximately 1 million students have used Grockit worldwide.
