Gradescope helps teachers grade assessments or exams online by speeding up the grading process. It also allows teachers to view statistics of the entire class and notify students once their work is graded. Gradescope is free of charge to teachers but also sells in-app upgrades.
APPROACH
Teachers first create the exam or assessment either by themselves or through Gradescope’s editor. After the students turn in their exam or assessment sheets, teachers scan and upload the assignments onto Gradescope, and associate each submission with the correct student name. Once teachers start grading, Gradescope automatically zooms in to display a single question on the submission (although full-display of the entire submission is also available). Teachers then may navigate through all the submissions for the exact same question, allowing them to grade it with the same rubric items. New rubric items can be created by the teacher, and the point values of each rubric item may be changed anytime during the grading process. All previous questions graded with the changed rubric item will be updated as well.
Advanced settings are also available, such as keyboard shortcuts, multiple teacher grading, point adjustments for individual students, and optional comments.
After grading is completed, data of the exam or assessment is displayed on a dashboard, and can be downloaded as an excel file. Teachers can notify students of the availability of their graded assignments via Gradescope via e-mail, and the student can then review their scores online.
IMPLEMENTATION
