Fulcrum Labs (which recently acquired Adapt Courseware) offers pre-made, course-complete adaptive courseware accessible by web browser. Students proceed at their own pace through three types of content: watching 3-5 minutes of instruction, reading text and images, and practicing with a variety of assessments. As they work, students can communicate with each other and the instructor. Instructors can access analytics dashboards. American Council on Education-approved and aligned with AP and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) standards, the courseware can be used when teaching in fully online, blended or face-to-face formats.

Fulcrum’s adaptive algorithms consider factors such as learner self-assessment, mastery of prior learning objectives, performance on questions, and learning style preference. Instructors can customize content and questions, override the courseware’s grading policies, allow students to skip content that the technology does not think the student has mastered, edit content modules, reorder the adaptive criteria for when new competencies can be unlocked, and adjust competency goals for the whole class or groups of students.
