Usage: grading student work and getting students to grade their own work

Strengths: -Helps standardize grading among different teachers without having the teachers come together to grade a common assessment all the time
-Helps familiarize teachers with CCSS standards and how to assess where students are on each one.
-Kind of like a MOOC, except more related to teachers. Love the real student essay samples.

Suggestions for Improvement: -Let teachers and students work together to create their own rubrics!
-Lower grade application?
-Math and science applications!
-Who created the rubrics in the application? How did they do it?

Verdict: If this product could be used by teacher educators to customize their PD for teachers, that would be great! E.g. as a way to figure out how teachers are learning a new skill such as reading and writing workshop, GLAD techniques. That would require that teacher educators be able to customize this product for their own use, i.e. write their own content.

Usage: N/a

Strengths: I think that this product can incredible potential to support individualized pd for teachers. It could be considered as teacher evaluation systems are redesigned.

Suggestions for Improvement: I would encourage the developers to include an interactive component to their product so teachers can talk with one another, ask jest ions, or form affinity groups for future collaborations. I would also create the opportunity for teachers to engage in the on line pd as a professional learning community.

Verdict: I think that the potential for individualized pd would be of great value to large and small districts, districts with limited budgets and also rural districts with limited access to experts.

Usage: Writing rubric grounding for educators

Strengths: It uses an established scoring on rubric assignment for teachers to assess their scoring on a rubric. Can be done independently, can be used to check scorer's performance using a rubric for scoring writing assignments.

Suggestions for Improvement: A direct link to a student product would be good. Also capability for norming on different or variant rubrics.

Verdict: Used to do much scoring on a normed rubric in the past. Found it very useful in establishing more objective evaluation. Like the idea of having something already provided with option of changing.

Usage: I don't!

Strengths: The product is a fantastic idea in terms of getting professional development complete and earning badges to show your knowledge. Much more effective to have teachers work on their own time. Attending a conference doesn't mean that the educator has mastered a skill.

Suggestions for Improvement: I don't like how it is only aligned with the common core.

Verdict: I would not recommend it to the educators at my school because our curriculum is not aligned with the common core.

Usage: Do not use

Strengths: Hits a very important target (PD) that nobody else is really touching and has a great foundation as a system.

Suggestions for Improvement: Narrow focus so far because its just starting, but potential is huge! Also use student work at school instead of giving teachers random work from other students. Saves you time and effort and makes the training more relevant.

Verdict: Only once it has grown!
