Edcite is a web-based tool designed to help K-12 teachers create, organize, and share digital assessments. Various multi-media resources are available for teachers to create an assignment, assign tasks to students, and assess student performance. Users can also search through a large database of digital resources created by other teachers. Edcite is available as a free or licensed product.
Approach
After teachers create a free account on Edcite’s website, they can create classes and add students; this can be done manually or by importing a roster from a SIS or LMS. Teachers can then create assignments from scratch, typing in questions, formatting texts, inserting graphs, pictures, videos, or URL links, and scheduling a due date. Teachers can also search through a library of materials for all subjects and insert them into the assignment. The library includes items that can be incorporated into the assignment (e.g. videos, simulations, text passages, etc.) as well as various types of interactive questions.
Teachers can also create an answer key to their customized questions, enable auto-grading, and view reports of individual student progress. Finally, teachers can view their assignments using “student view” to check their own work. Teachers can activate or deactivate finished assignments and share them with other teachers.
After students join a class, they can view “current assignments,” “submitted assignments (view results),” and “archived assignments.” Students can see which assignments are activated, when they are due, which class and what teacher they are from, and the status of completion. While completing an assignment, a student can save and pause their work, grade individual questions, and view reports on their own work after submitting.
Edcite Schools is a customized and upgraded version of Edcite specifically designed for a school district or program. Using Edcite schools, educators can create and distribute common assessments across a school or district. Additional services include teacher collaboration tools, easier distribution of assignments and in-depth analytics on a district or school-wide level. Assignments in Edcite Schools support Common Core, NGSS and other standards. The product also provides interfaces to help students practice on SBAC, PARCC and other next generation testing tools.
Implementation
Edcite is browser-based and mobile optimized. It requires an online connection to use.
Pricing
Edcite is free to use. However, Edcite Schools requires a $4 per student per year license, which is subject to change depending on the size of the school.
Who is using it
As of summer 2016, Edcite is used by over 90,000 teachers in all 50 states.
I was looking for a way to create online assessments that would be similar to what the students would need to do for our high stakes tests.
