SUMMARY:
Citelighter is a browser-based platform that makes students better writers by breaking down arguments into manageable steps and helps teachers make CCSS-aligned assignments, provide real-time feedback on student writing and streamline the grading process. Teachers can use a free version of the product, and schools can purchase the paid version for $15 per student per year. As of January 10, 2015, over 50,000 students and 10,000 teachers have used Citelighter in over 1,000 schools.
GOALS:
Citelighter makes students better writers by breaking down arguments into manageable steps and helps teachers make CCSS-aligned assignments, provide real-time feedback on student writing and streamline the grading process. Citelighter was designed to help students better organize and express their thoughts while keeping teachers and school leaders up-to-date on their students’ progress.
APPROACH:
Teachers can take advantage of Citelighter’s over 1200 pre-designed scaffolds and grading rubrics or use their assignment creation tool to align their activities to the Common Core State Standards. As students begin working on a writing assignment, teachers can provide real-time feedback to make sure that students get started on the right track. Students can incorporate online sources relevant to a particular section of their argument directly into their paper and work to paraphrase and cite it. Teachers can use the assessment rubrics to expedite standards-based grading and receive analytics on student performance.
IMPLEMENTATION:
Teachers and students can access the Citelighter writing platform through any web browser on a computer or phone.

Teachers are able to use a version of Citelighter for free, and schools can purchase a paid version for $15 per student per year.
