SUMMARY
Britannica School is a database of information that can be used on any browser. Students use the tool for research, while teachers can plan lessons and share them with others. The tool is available to schools for a yearly subscription.
GOALS
Britannica School compiles the breadth and depth of the traditional Encyclopaedia Britannica into a digital site easily usable in the classroom. The site seeks to provide the data that students need for research in a safe environment for students.
APPROACH
Students log on to their account on the Britannica School website, and use the appropriate grade portal (elementary, middle, or high) to search for topics. Searching returns relevant articles, media, and related resources. Articles are available in multiple reading levels, giving each student the opportunity to choose the level that will be right for her.
When doing research on a topic, students save their favorite articles, pictures, etc. to personal folders. Clicking a button provides proper citation formatting for the media in question. Students can also define words through the site.
Britannica School’s also allows teachers to build lesson plans aligned to pages on the site. Teachers select the relevant pages, as well as the subjects and standards they would like to address. Once they have built the lesson, they can share it with others.
IMPLEMENTATION
Britannica School is available on any modern browser. Users must be connected to the internet to use the tool.
