GOALS
BrainRush consists of short, modular learning games (or “BrainRushes”) to teach foundational knowledge about a variety of subjects. The product is designed to address the issue of students’ varying level of background knowledge and mastery of a particular subject. BrainRushes are game-based, and thus keep students engaged in active learning.
BrainRush can be used for any K-12 student.
APPROACH
Upon signup, teachers can use any of the company’s 4000+ BrainRushes, which are available for a variety of subjects. Teachers can also create their own BrainRushes or customize those already available to them. BrainRushes can also be assigned to individual students, who may need special learning plans.
As students participate in BrainRushes, the system tracks their progress and adjusts difficulty to keep students learning. Teachers can also monitor the activity and progress of all students.
BrainRushes can be tagged to indvidiual Common Core standards. Teachers can find activities that address particular standards using a built-in search function.
IMPLEMENTATION
BrainRush is a browser-based tool that requires internet access to be used; although no native apps are available at this time, the tool can be used on a mobile device browser.
To use in the classroom, teachers sign up for an account and create a “virtual classroom.” BrainRushes can then be assigned to students who sign up for the classroom.
PRICING
Basic content on BrainRush (e.g. the large library of standards BrainRushes, assigning BrainRushes to students) is free for all teachers.
Teachers, administrators, or districts may purchase a premium subscription. The subscription includes access to AP and SAT prep questions, as well as more detailed reporting functionality. A premium subscription currently costs $9.95/student/month, though pricing is still fluctuating due to the recent launch of the product.
WHO IS USING IT
As of early 2015, BrainRush was being used by more than 50,000 students in over 500 schools around the US.
