Digital reading platform that adapts fiction and non-fiction texts to match students' reading levels

Overview

SUMMARY:

Books That Grow is a free adaptive reading platform that creates custom versions of fiction and nonfiction books to match each student’s reading level. Teachers and students can access the books via a browser or download the native iPad app. Since the product launched in May of 2014, Books That Grow has been used by over 1,000 students and teachers in almost 30 schools.

GOALS:

Books That Grow is an adaptive reading platform that creates custom versions of fiction and nonfiction books to match each student’s reading level. CCSS-aligned embedded assessments ensure that the texts increase in difficulty to continue challenging every student. The product was designed to make differentiated instruction more manageable for teachers across multiple disciplines.

APPROACH:

Books That Grow assesses a student’s reading level and adapts their textbooks from different subjects to match that level. Stronger students will be challenged with more difficult syntax and vocabulary, and struggling students will read a simplified version of the same text. Readers from a wide-range of levels will be able to comprehend the same content. This enables teachers to provide differentiated instruction without assigning different textbooks or adapting all of the curriculum by hand.

IMPLEMENTATION:

Teachers and students can access the books via a browser or download the native iPad app.

PRICING:

Books That Grow is currently free for teachers to use. There will be premium features coming in the near future, but a fully-functional version of the product will always be available for free.

WHO IS USING IT:

Since the product launched in May of 2014, Books That Grow has been used by over 1,000 students and teachers in almost 30 schools.

There is also an issue of net connectivity, which I can usually solve ...
