Apex Learning Comprehensive Courses is a comprehensive online curriculum for high school students. Students cover academic content in all major disciplines by watching interactive instructional videos or reading ebooks, answering scaffolded questions, receiving feedback, and completing online assessments and writing portfolios. It is available for purchase at a subscription rate.
All users begin using Apex Learning Comprehensive Courses by logging in to their account. Students then select which course and unit they wish to complete or have been assigned. They watch interactive instructional videos, animations, and tutorials and follow prompts to complete corresponding interactive questions in multiple choice, free response, fill in, or gamified format. Questions and writing prompts focus on the core principles of observation, inquiry, creativity, and confirmation.
From their ‘Reading Comprehension’ dashboard, students self-select or chose assigned readings from Apex’s online library of e-books or passages. They watch a brief introduction video that sets context, and read the text while answering step by step guided reading prompts. They use the toolbar to annotate readings, take notes, and have the text read aloud. Students also respond to step by step writing prompts presented throughout the text to organize their writing using an embedded word processing tool. Students save all written work to an online portfolio.
From their dashboard, teachers view reporting graphics of student progress and performance through the curriculum. Based on student performance, teachers have the option to custom assign Apex- created or their own assignments and assessments.
