21Teach is a directory app of STEM Open Educational Resources —games, apps, videos, and e-books—that align to the Common Core State Standards and run on mobile devices. The app allows for K-12 teachers, students, and parents to find, bookmark, and rate mobile resources.
According to the company, there are over 20 million Free and Reduced Lunch students whose only access to the internet at home is through mobile devices—smartphones and tablets. With BYOD programs becoming more common within schools and districts, it is difficult and time consuming for teachers to find educational content that is mobile friendly aligned to common core standards to support BYOD environments. 21Teach aims to fill this gap by providing a directory of educational resources available on any mobile device.
Users can download 21Teach by visiting the Apple App store or Google Play store. Once the app has been downloaded and opened, the user is presented with a screen to create an account. Users are asked to enter an email address as their ID, and to chose a password. They then select whether they are a student, teacher or parent.
Once their account has been created, users are taken to a search screen where they can filter for subsets of 21Teach's content by grade level, subject, type of content (games, apps, videos, etc.), and teacher rating (1-5 stars). Users are then presented with a list of content that adheres to the chosen filters. When a user selects an individual piece of content, she is shown a summary of the content, its applicable grade levels, its teacher rating, its price and whether any lesson plans are linked to the content. Additionally, users can view any Common Core standards linked to the content, as well as any reviews left by other users.
From this screen, users can also access the content by pressing the "Download" button, which links to the app store where that game can be downloaded.
21Teach is available for download on all iOS and Android devices.
21Teach is a free app. Some of the content it links to, however, is paid and requires purchase before a user can access it.
WHO IS USING IT
