Imagine K12 has joined Y Combinator to create a vertical for education-focused startups within Y Combinator. By bringing together Y Combinator’s deep experience with startups and Imagine K12’s expertise in education, we’ve created the best place for edtech founders to accelerate their startups.
At YC/Imagine K12, our goal is to improve your company’s chances of success. To that end, we meet with founders weekly to discuss business strategy, product design, technical advice, recruiting advice, and anything else that matters to the company. We have seminars and resources designed to help founders get smarter about building their businesses, including special programming for startups focused on education. We also connect founders with the world’s largest networks of educators and edtech entrepreneurs, who support the work of new YC/Imagine K12 companies.
WHO SHOULD APPLY
Y Combinator and Imagine K12 have funded companies that serve a student’s entire learning journey, from early childhood and K-12 education, to vocational training, higher education, and lifelong learning. Their products deliver adaptive curriculum, foster student collaboration, engage parents, measure school effectiveness, train corporate data scientists, and much more.
Education startups may apply to YC/Imagine K12 with an untested idea or with an established product. We’ve funded companies at stages ranging from pre-MVP to well over $1 million in ARR. If your team believes every student deserves a quality education and is determined to be a part of the transformation of our schools, you should apply.
WHAT WE DO
Y Combinator funds companies in 3-month cycles. We invest $120,000 in each startup. We ask the founders of each startup we fund to move to the Bay Area for the duration of their cycle, during which time we work intensively with them to get the company into the best shape possible. For edtech companies, YC/Imagine K12 also helps with introductions to educators, students, and potential customers.
Each cycle culminates in a Demo Day, where the startups present to an audience of the world’s top startup investors.
The winter 2017 YC/Imagine K12 program will take place in Mountain View, California, from January to March 2017.

Applications for the winter 2017 YC/Imagine K12 program are due October 4. Submit your application directly to Y Combinator at the link below. Be sure to select the “Education” category on the application.
