Digital Assignment App Showbie Snags $5 Million in Series A Funding

Showbie, an Edmonton, Canada-based provider of an app for managing assignment, assessments and communications, has raised $5 million in a Series A round led by Rhino Ventures. Other investors include Point Nine Capital and Azure Capital.

Founded in 2012, Showbie claims it is now used by more than 3 million educators across over 135 countries. Its main features allow teachers, parents and students to organize and share class work through digital portfolios. According to a statement, the funding will further efforts to expand its analytics, communications and content features to support schools with remote instruction.

Showbie raised $2.3 million in seed funding in 2015. In 2018, the company acquired Socrative, a formative assessment tool.
