DEV-ERSITY: Facebook is partnering with Dev Bootcamp to launch the “Facebook F8 Scholarship” for women and underrepresented minority students. A $250K gift from Facebook and an unspecified contribution from Dev Bootcamp will fund 20 full-tuition scholarships for the coding school’s San Francisco program this year. The scholarship is linked to Facebook’s annual F8 developer conference, which focuses on bringing developers together to leverage the suite of Facebook tools and products.
California residents who are women and/or of a racial minority group underrepresented in tech (Black/African American, Chicano/Latino, Native American, Pacific Islander) are eligible for the scholarship, according to a press release. Applications are open until May 2. In June the “Facebook F8 Scholars” will begin the 19-week curriculum, which covers Ruby, JavaScript, Ruby on Rails, common JavaScript libraries, SQL, HTML, CSS, pair programming, and agile and test driven development.
